Even if the name of the museum may sound a bit boring, the DASA is the largest and most exciting museum of technology in the Ruhr area, along with the Bochum Mining Museum. The 13,000-square-metre exhibition is dedicated to the theme of man – work – technology. With headphones that can be borrowed free of charge, the exhibits are explained to the visitor in the best possible way.
For me, the most fascinating area is that of future working worlds. For example, you can take a virtual walk in the international space station with 3D glasses and a joystick. The rest and relaxation rooms in the offices of the future are also interesting.
Other focal points of the German Workers’ Protection Exhibition worth seeing are, for example, “Invisible Dangers” (hazardous substances in chemistry), “In the Race for the Latest News” (printing and media from Gutenberg to today), “More Safety in Construction” (2 walk-through construction sites outdoors) and much more. Particularly noteworthy is the area of the living space of the working world. The “Drudging in Shifts” area deals with the coal and steel industry. An original gigantic blast furnace is exhibited here. In the “Healing and Caring” section, new aids and devices for the disabled are on display.
The DASA is definitely worth a visit! The huge museum does not even have to fear comparison with the Deutsches Museum in Munich. What speaks for the German Workers’ Exhibition above all is that, unlike many others, the museum is up to date. You should definitely (!) get a free headset at the entrance. This makes the visit to the museum much more interesting. The text in the headphones automatically adapts to the room you are in. You should take your time; you should definitely plan 3-5 hours for a visit to the DASA. In addition to the permanent exhibitions, there are often temporary exhibitions worth seeing. In the ticket office area of the exhibition there is a self-service bistro with food and drinks at medium prices.
