In the meantime, the Miniatur Wunderland is one of the TOP-10 sights in Hamburg. The rush of visitors is very big, there are often waiting times of hours. But you can buy tickets with date and time in advance on this website.
It is a large old warehouse building in the Speicherstadt that houses the gigantic model train. The largest model railway in the world has an area of about 1500 m². Controlled by computers, more than 1000 trains run in Miniatur Wunderland. The tracks are over 15 kilometres long in total. More than 300 (!) people work here at the Hamburg model railway.
The entire Miniatur Wunderland model railway is divided into many different themed areas. Examples are Hamburg, Switzerland, the Harz Mountains, America or the airport.

On the 2nd floor of the old warehouse building is the entrance to the railway. Here is also a cafe / restaurant for the visitors with a long wait who have not bought a ticket online beforehand (tickets are available on this link). We waited almost 2 hours on a normal weekday in October.
The actual model railway, the largest on earth, is on the 3rd and especially the 4th floor. Every few minutes the lights go off and on. This simulates day and night. At night, many thousands of small lights shine. Photography is better during the day.
Also in Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg, i.e. after the entrance, is a large restaurant, many visitors stay for many hours to take a close look at everything and are hungry.

The attraction is very popular and well known. Adults pay around 20 euros online with priority admission without queuing, and around 20 euros on site with a wait that usually lasts for hours. Small children are free, for older children there is a reduced entrance fee to Wunderland Hamburg for 12 euros. There is also a small reduction for senior citizens.

The model railway in Hamburg is open every day of the year, at least from 9:30 am and until 6 pm. Depending on the day of the week and the season, however, the opening hours are much longer. Often as early as 7:30 a.m., for example at the weekend not infrequently until midnight.

The Wunderland is located in a typical building in the Speicherstadt. This is where the goods for import and export in the harbour used to be stored. The nearest underground station is “Baumwall” (U3, just under 10 minutes walk).
The model railway itself runs a small car park with just under 50 spaces, but it is very often full, parking fee 2 euros per hour. Otherwise, parking in the area is difficult, it is better to come by public transport.
Close by are the Speicherstadt Museum and the Spice Museum.
